haha, love the fact u dedicated a whole post for me my future white shark meet n greet vicky! ;)
just finnished my first week at work - SANCA substance abuse centre. feels good so far, nnext weeks challenge will be taking on my own clients :o
the weekend passed by so fast.. ok its not over yet! checked out my first ever (official) rugby match at the NELSON MANDELA stadium yesterday. wasnt all that great, haha. the local team played the cheetahs - if anyones interested. the crew i went with, the dutch and a couple of zimbaweans werent that into it.. haha, its not the easiest game to follow if u dont know the rules, which none of us did :) soo yaa. felt a bit pimp to be in the stadium tho, official WORLD CUP 2010 stadium n all! woop woop!
its the shit down here! theyve even made it "obligatory" (atleast at some firms) to wear ure football tee to work on fridays - just to get the hype up! and theres also an official dance, which everyone is sposed to do at the flag-waving-day..in may (?!) haha. klockrent
havent seen much of it tho :/
buuut, i got my dose of s.african booty shakin when broke it down local style at one of the townships last week :D haha, felt a lil retarded tryin to roll my bambam like them. "no, u have to push ure butt out more.. and rooooll".. im not sure she realised that i dont have as much ass to roll as they do!
hopefully gettin my own car next week, so ill be more independent.. at the moment i have to hitch a ride with my housy, jose, whenever iwant to go somewhere.. which kinda sucks. cause that means i go when she goes, and stay when she stays..
haha, on another note. to all u kungsholmen peeps - i travel half way round the world and OFCOURSE i meet someone from, yes KUNGSHOLMEN! haha so crazy!

get back to u soooooooon!

Love/Hate relationship with a Kenyan apartment agent

2010-01-20 @ 23:30:27 Kommentarer (2)

I've laughed. Anna has laughed. My Mother has laughed. My father said " I told you so". Why? Because of THIS. This is what i have to deal with even more arriving in le AFRIQUE. Apartment agents!

Below follows one of our conversations with one of nairobis apartment agents via email and i guess after not having written to them for 1 week Eldon Villas missed us?

Apartment agent to Me :
Dear Victoria
I am writing to inform you that we only have two apartments remaining.
Me :
Dear Beatrice, this is a shame. We are actually more people arriving now
and would need 3 rooms, this is unfortunate knowing that you only have two
fully furnished rooms left.

Best Regards / Victoria Wariaro
( A TOTAL LIE WE ONLY NEED ONE apartment !! )

Apartment agent to Me :
Dear Victoria

I think you are one lucky person some people just cancelled there booking
they were traveling from Hait and now they can travel because of what
happend so they decided to travel later. In that case you get the 3 rooms
you were looking for again the wireless internet which we were installing
worked so you dont have to buy the cable for the internet.

For more information dont hesitate to contact us at anytime.

Regards
Beatrice

BRAAI!

2010-01-19 @ 17:35:47 Kommentarer (3)
Sunday is official market day in PE! Anyone whos ever travelled with me know is loooove markets :) the market runs along the beach/border walk and theres everything u might not need.. but mainly arts and crafts. Even tho the i was promised special price and seemed to be related to every single vender (”sista, special price for u sista”) I acctually managed to buy absolutely nothing. Shocking i know ;) but i promised my local siblings to be back another Sunday. I think ive got enough sundays for that!
The rest of the days was spent pool side chillin over at Sandra, Rob & Pims place. Odd fact about dutch, they dont eat (real) lunch. They have a lump of bread or sandwitch, n thats it. I was like – how do u survive?! And they were like – how can u a dinnermeal for lunch? .. AND dinner?! But somehow i convinced them pasta sallad was a good idea.
Sunday was a full package awesome day; market, 100% sunshine, pool bumming, (pasta sallad?).. and for dinner BRAAI! i dont think ive seen that much meat in my liiife :D meat lovers galore! haha
have to admit tho, ex veggie as i am, it was some taaaasty meat! (and, no its not better than argentinian meat)

more pics next time ;)
LOVE all the way from south aFREAKa!

JAY BAY

2010-01-19 @ 17:31:59 Kommentarer (0)
Haha, strange feelin waking up in a room u dont really know – and yes i did wake up in MY room. José and her DUTCH friend, Sandra, told me the nite before theyd be headin off to jefforeys bay (J-bay) the next day, would i like to come? Hmm. Beach + sun+ sara? = No brainer. So we picked up Sandras housey, Robert, n curised off to j-bay. Half way there Rob askes – how far can u go when the tank is blinkin red?? haha. –im thinkin mummy is think men herre gud!- buuuut, we got to j-bay n a gas station. So no problems!
J-bay wasn’t really what i thought i would be, seeing as the guide books make it seem like surf mecca numero uno. There were surfers.. like 15? Of which Rob was one :) and some windsurfers! but it was far from packed. There was hardly anyone on the beach.. but somehow we managed to get a swedish couple next to us! The dutch thought it was a lil nippy, but coming from -15, this was heaven! the eastern cape is known for being windy.. i think we brought half the beach with us home. However they did have some nice shops, all the surf brands u can think of.. but its not THAT cheap. cheapER than sweden, but still not cheap cheap. That pretty much goes for SA as a whole. I dont know, i figured it would be cheaper. But i guess thats my scotish genes talking :)
In the eveing we (me and say 6 dutch) went out for dinner. Really fancy place – ooh – but not too pricy. Celebrating the newbees: me and our new arrival, Pim (it's a guys name, yes). Who was – guess?? Yes dutch!what a suprise. Haha. After an awesome dinner we went back to Chalmers (our crib) n chilled for a beer n then headed out to do the PE nightlife! im not sure what i was expecting, but it wasnt that. It was like any other club in EUROPÉ. Nothin exotic, i guess thats what i was expecting.. as in main stream music – no african beats, not too crazy.. there was hardly any africans there it :/ feels so strange how clubs are defined as ”white” or ”black” (dominated) clubs.. anyway it was a good nite!

HELLO SOUTH AFRICA!

2010-01-19 @ 17:30:31 Kommentarer (0)
15 jan
3 flights, 4 airmeals, 7hrs at joburg airport, and a (zebra coloured) jeep ride later – i arrived at my new home to be in Port Elizabeth, South Africa :D
The flights acctually went alot faster than i thought they would. Slept through most of it..Woke up just before breakfast, druling on myself (and thankfully not on the person next to me :) ). Biggest bummer was the 7hour wait (which was acctually 6hrs, because of the time zones) in Johannesburg airport.. it's a pretty big airport but theres clearly not much to do there! I resorted to some good quality internet nerding – took me half an hour to find the internet café! Obviously people had different ideas of what an internet café was :) after the internet search work out, i needed some grub n strolled over to Nando’s, fast food portuguese BBQ. YUM YUM! At this point my brain wasn’t really functioning and i was hungry.. i ordered the grilled chicken sallad and yes yes sounds good to whatever the woman was asking. Realising after that she asked me if i wanted HOT piri piri spicing?! (haha, for those of u who dont know – piri piri is a small but dangerously spicy chilli) i like spicy, but this was not spicy. This was murder! aaaah, couldnt even eat half it was SOOO HOT ! :(  My lips where on fire! Lesson learned, never get spicy nandos again. Rounded my 6hour wait off with La Zona, on my fabulous macbook.. not all that uplifting :/
Suuuuch an awesome feeling steppin off the plane into 25degrees! Woooooooooo! Hope ure enjoyin the snow darlings ;) cause its all sun over here! Haha. I got picked up at the airport by a guy called Esra, who works for the company i rent my room from. My ride – a zebra coloured jeep! Haha totally bananas! the place i live in has space for 6-7 people, like a student pad. So we share living room, kitchen, toilets.. but at the moment its just me and another girl called josé – from holland. GAH! Everyone here is dutch! ..appart from the south africans ;) haha, all the inturns, volonteers & student living in the area seem to be dutch. they come in hurds! Theyre really sweet, but they seem to forget the fact that theyre not IN holland.. and assume that everyone understands dutch. on the bright side, i might be semi fluent in dutch by the time i get back :)
Anyway end of the story was that basically passed out on my bed after unpacking, notifying i was alive and meetin my housemate.
luuurv ..only THE illest airport pick-up!
